A glance at the history of the Ronda watch movement manufacturing company
1946
Mr. William Mosset founded RONDA and began producing watch movements for a wide range of wristwatches.
1952
Start of production of ebauches or "blank movements" under license for BRAC.
1961
Manufacturing the first RONDA ebauches after a long dispute with the Swiss authorities, who protected the so-called "watchmaking statute." Thus RONDA was the first company apart from the big existing watch groups to receive these production rights outside the large watchmaking group.
1972
Expanding new markets sprang up in Asia, leading to the creation of a subsidiary in Hong Kong as well as increasing market activities in the USA.
1974
In the early 1970s, quartz shockwave technology emerged in the watchmaking industry. The new quartz movements were far more accurate than the traditional mechanical watches. With its dynamic spirit, RONDA quickly developed its first quartz movement.
1980
During the 1980s, quartz technology conquered the global watchmaking industry. The worldwide use of wristwatches increased from about 50 million to 400 million in 1990. The wristwatch had become a fashion trend.
Due to the relentless pressure on prices, production began to be mechanized and partly was moved to Asia.
1985
Death of William Mosset, founder of RONDA
1990
Ronda opened a new branch in Thailand in 1990 to penetrate the global market and increase production in Asia. This branch expanded its products in the field of watch movements and electronic components.
1996
Ronda celebrated its 50th anniversary with employees of more than 1,000 people on three continents and became the first recipient of ISO 9001 certification for watchmaking in Europe.
1999
Inauguration of the new factory in Thailand, with an area of approximately 8000 sqm
2003
RONDA launches the first quartz chronograph with BIG DATE.
2004
Expansion of the production site in Lausen / Switzerland
2005
RONDA launched the "ronda mastertech 6000" - Big Date movements with 11½ accuracy.
2006
RONDA launched the mastertech 7000 - Big Date movement and weekdays display 15"'
2008
RONDA established a new factory in Stabio / Switzerland to assemble Swiss Made movements and watches on a contract basis.
2009
Inauguration of the third factory in Thailand
2010
Launch and production of RONDA mastertech 8000 - Big Date Chronograph & weekdays display with 15" 'movement accuracy.
2011
RONDA launched startech 3500 - Chronograph movements with 10½ x 11½ '' ' accuracy.
