Jackie Ickx, a former Formula 1 driver, was sponsored by TAG Heuer in 1970 during his partnership with Ferrari. In 1976, TAG Heuer presented an pioneering technology to FIA (Fédération internationale de l’Automobile), a transponder technology known as ACIT (Automatic Car Identification Timing System), which enabled recording the times of all cars.
TAG Heuer made a comeback on the F1 circuit with the victory of the TAG McLaren team with Alain Prost in 1986. As a result, TAG Heuer became the official timekeeper of Formula 1 World Championship in 1990.
